"Dar vom ramane, desigur, in alerta", a adaugat Jean-Claude Trichet.

Euro Pares Losses As Greek Concerns Ease

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The euro pared its losses Thursday, reversing a steep intraday drop, as Greek budget data showed a marked improvement and the European Central Bank voiced confidence in the country's ability to meet its obligations.
The euro climbed to $1.3360 after the Greek finance ministry said the country's first-quarter 2010 budget deficit narrowed to EUR4.3 billion from EUR7.1 billion in the first quarter of last year 2009.
In addition, a government spokesman in Athens said Greece wouldn't need to activate a European Union-International Monetary Fund debt rescue mechanism "at this time."
Those announcements followed comments by ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet who sounded a relatively optimistic tone at the central bank's monthly press conference. Trichet said "default is not an issue for Greece," adding that the rescue scheme in place is "workable." ...
Trichet's comments helped lower Greek 10-year government bond yields, which fell to 7.38% from 7.58% earlier. Bond yields fall when prices rise. The risk premium narrowed to around 4.27 percentage points over the German benchmark bund from 4.48 points earlier. Still the gap remains above Wednesday's close at 4.06 points.
"Officials are trying to weather the storm--the dramatic sell-off of Greek bonds--without panicking," said Marc Chandler, global head of foreign exchange for Brown Brothers Harriman in New York. But despite the euro's recovery, "Greek debt is still an issue," he said.
